Interclub Series Two: Progress Report

Series Two Interclub is well underway with each Grade at a different point due to the differing number of teams in each Grade. The Premier Grade round robin concludes on 23rd August, Division One has three more rounds to go and Division Two has two more rounds to go.

In Premier Grade, our best placed team is Empire Entertainers who are lying third, with Depak Patel unbeaten. In Division One, Empire Enforcers are in second spot, wiith Tony Rutledge on 83.3% whilst in Division Two, Empire Elms lead the way with Vladimir Vysotskiy on 88.9%.

Congratulations too, to Vladimir Vysotskiy for winning the Division Two Grade Championship which was held last week. He beat another member, Kaz Witko in the final.

Interclub Series Two: Under Way

Upcoming Dates

17/7/2016

Junior Club is closed for the school holidays and will reopen on Friday 29th July.

Winter Interclub Series Two starts in late July and entries close soon. If you wish to play and haven't yet got your name down, please contact a Board Member or Session Organiser as soon as possible.

The 2016 Wellington Open takes place on 30th/31st July at our Stadium. Entries close at 9.00pm on Wednesday 27th July.

Sunday Club will not operate on 31st July due, to the Wellington Open.

Grade Championships: Empire Clean Up!

Empire players won all three Grade Championships which were played on Tuesday 5th July following the completion of Winter Interclub the previous week. Congratulations to Depak Patel, Tony Rutledge and Vladimir Vysotskiy!

Winter Interclub Series One: Wrap Up

Winter Interclub Series One is done and dusted and thanks to all players, regulars and fill ins for taking part. We hope you will all be ready to do battle again in Series Two, which starts in late July.

Special congratulations to Empire Egrets who won Division Two and honourable mentions to Empire Elms (Runners Up: Division Two) Empire Enforcers (Runners Up: Division One) and Empire Entertainers (Third Place: Premier Grade).

Leading Empire Individuals were Ian Talbot (Premier Grade), Tony Rutledge (Division One) and Vladimir Vysotskiy (Division Two).

Winter Interclub Series One: Finals

The very best of luck to Empire Enforcers who have reached the Division One final on 29th June and to Empire Elms and Empire Egrets who are playing off against each other in the Division Two final on 28th June Go well also, Empire Entertainers who are playing off for 3rd/4th place in Division One on 28th June.

Winter Interclub Series One: Play Off Time!

This week (21st/22nd June) sees the the first play off stages in Premier Grade and Division One and the last round robin round in Division Two. Congratulations to Empire Entertainers and Empire Enforcers who are contesting semi finals in Premier Grade and Division One respectively. In Division Two, Empire Egrets and Empire Elms are in first and second place and strongly placed to contest the final the following week Best of luck to these teams and to all our other teams who are contesting minor placings. Junior Development Tournament Successes!

Four of our members had success at the TTW Junior Development Tournament played at our Club on Sunday 12th June. Congratulations to Ryan O'Leary (Winner, U12 Singles), Joshua Corby ( Runner Up, U12 Singles), Jackson Stewart (Winner, U14 Singles; Runner up U14 Doubles) and Olly Evans (Winner, U17 Singles).

Winter Interclub: Round #4 Update

On his return from holiday, your website custodian found that Series One is nearing the end of the round robin stage. Round #4 took place on 8th/9th June and the results from Round #5 next week will determine the play offs draw.

In Premier Grade Empire Entertainers are tracking well for a semi final spot, whilst Empire Enforcers and Empire Egrets are topping the table in Division One and Division Two respectively.

Winter Interclub: Starts 17th May!

It's that time of year again! Winter Interclub starts at our Stadium on Tuesday 17th May (Premier and Division Two) and Wednesday 18th May (Division One) with Series 1 going through to 28th/29th June.
This season in Series 1 we will have ten teams doing battle. To see our teams, go to our interclub page. The table tennis wellington blog will have all the progress results and we will update progress here from time to time too.

Empire @ Movies!!: Florence Foster Jenkins: 10th May

Our movie fund raiser this year is Florence Foster Jenkins at the Lighthouse Petone on Tuesday 10th May at 8.00pm. Arrive from 7.30pm to enjoy a light supper. Drinks are available for purchase.

The movie stars Merry Streep, Hugh Grant and Simon Helberg (Big Bang Theory). It has received good reviews and promises to be both enjoyable and funny. Click here for more details.

Tickets are $20 each and are available from session organisers and board members. Please support this fund raiser. These additional funds are vital to our Club.

25th April: ANZAC Day: No Monday Club

It's Raffle Time!

Tickets for our fundraising raffle are now on sale when you next come to the Club, at $2 each. The major prize is a night and breakfast at the James Cook Hotel and other prizes include our ever popular multicard. Fundraising is a critical part of keeping our Club viable, so please support our raffle. Let's see if we can sell all tickets in a record time this year!

Summer Interclub Wrap Up

A little belatedly, he is a wrap up of the Summer Interclub Finals played on 30th March and the Grade Championships played on 6th April. Members performed strongly in all divisions.

In Division One, Nomads (including member Chris Talbot) were runners up.

.In Division Two, Empire Empresses (Jo Roberts, Raewyn Young) were the winners.

In Division Three, Enigmas (Basil Kananghinis, Om Thakur) won the Division and Enforcers (Liam Johnston, Ian Grace) were runners up.

In the Division One Grade Championships, Depak Patel won the singles and was runner up in the doubles and Ian Talbot was runner up in the singles and won the doubles.

In the Division Three Grade Championships, Om Thakur was runner up in the singles and Graham Sole & Ian Grace won the doubles.

Ron Menchi

We were sad to hear the news that Ron Menchi passed away on 11th April. He had been ill for some time. It is hard to put into words the contribution Ron has made to table tennis at a Club, Regional and National Level. He joined Empire in the late 1940s and was elected a Life Member in 1959. He was also a Vice President of Table Tennis Wellington, and a Life Member and Hall Of Fame Member of Table Tennis New Zealand. 2016 National Veterans Champs: Medallists!

Club members were among the medals at the National Veterans Champs held in Palmerston North over the Easter weekend!

Congratulations to Ian Talbot (Gold Medal, Over 60 Men's Doubles, with Lindsay Ward) to Tony Rutledge (Silver Medal, Over 65 Men's Teams, woth Bryan McConnochie) and to Chris Talbot (Gold Medal, Over 50 Men's Teams, with John Gan). Well done!

Summer Interclub: Play Offs

The round robin has been completed and the play offs for all divisions take place on Wednesday 30th March at our stadium. Three or our teams (Empresses, EnIgmas and Enforcers) have made the 1st/2nd place play offs in their respective divisions as has member Chris Talbot who is a member of a composite team. Congratulations too, to Jo Roberts (Empresses) who remained unbeaten through the round robin. Summer Interclub: Round #4 Summary

Round #4 was completed on Wednesday 16th March and the sharp end of the competition is approaching with the last round robin round on 23rd March. Empire and Enigmas continue to lead Divisions Two and Three respectively and Nomads (who include member Chris Talbot) continue to lead Division One. Depak Patel and Jo Roberts remain unbeaten.
